Land of the Midnight Sun!
I returned back to the buzzing city last week after a few days back home in Yellowknife where the ice is still melting off the big lake and the trees are just starting to bud open in green glory. The anticipation for summer is felt so strongly up in the North and I had forgotten just how much everything comes alive! The birds songs return as the sun warms the rocks and daylight stretches to last all day and all night. Somehow 5 hours of sleep feels like 10! I wonder if this is how bears feel coming out of hibernation...
The summers of my childhood were spent playing outside hiking, canoeing, fishing and swatting away at the millions of hungry mosquitos. The celebrations began with campfires being lit, midnight paddles on the big lake and gatherings of friends and family excitedly sharing plans for summer camping trips to the secret berry patch that is sure to bring a bounty this year.
My biggest challenge in the summer is to leave time and space to not have any plans and actually rest. It is time that I have to fiercely protect other wise it gets gobbled up by the busyness. I am getting better at it and currently working with a new mantra you are welcome to try out:
Thank you, I love you, but no.
Simple pimple right?! (it really isn't)
Try it out for yourself and let me know how it goes :)
This is my life through the yoga lens. Join me in my lessons, journeys across the ocean, dancing with a wild heart, eating with a happy belly and flowing down this blissful path.
